erWin - Electronic Repair and Workshop Information
Do you know that you can get legally all up-to-date repair workshop information for all VAG cars for just €5?
Meet the erwin - Electronic Repair and Workshop Information service. This is not only for professionals but erWin is also available to private individuals who want to repair their Skoda vehicle themselves! Thank you VAG!
erWin contains
Open Internet Explorer. That's important, other browsers doesn't works as expected.
Goto their home page https://erwin.skoda-auto.cz/erwin/showHome.do
First of all, choose surface and article language. I recommend you to set it to English or German (if you know it) as it should be most comprehensive info.
Now, go register https://erwin.skoda-auto.cz/erwin/showCustomerRegistration.do
And login after that.
Now to start working, you need to pay for service with Visa or MasterCard. You can choose the duration according to your needs:
One hour including printing rights €5.00
One day incl. printing rights €25.00
One week incl. printing rights €88.00
30 days incl. printing rights €310.00
365 days incl. printing rights €2,850.00
Before you pay, take a look around in menus and check their tour in "About erWin".
After payment that you will get instant access to all material, you can also check your car by VIN number.
Actually erWin is a good replacement for ETKA that requires a lot of dancing around computer to make it work. And it always updated. Anyway, 5 euro is a not so much money for that information.

erWin contains
- all repair guidelines for Škoda Auto
- further repair information available in PDF format (not available in all languages).
- additional information such as self-study programmes and training programmes.
- vehicle-specific information, such as maintenance tables, vehicle data and field actions is available in many languages.
- continuous update of data
- the Offboard Diagnostic Information System Service - Diagnostic Software
- with the advantage of carrying out an offboard diagnosis for all vehicles of the Skoda brand, which have a EU 5 type approval, through a SAEJ2534-compliant interface (diagnosis interface),
- and the possibility of direct access to the selected repair and maintenance information during a current diagnostic session via the diagnosis software.

Real world fuel consumption
![]() |
| Skoda Fabia - Engine 1.2 l/77 kW TSI - EU5 screenshot from owners manual |
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/pub?hl=en_US&hl=en_US&key=0AstaR8Qp-BJZdFFoWTBmMUhBVTNhbGd6U254ZHRTc1E&single=true&gid=6&output=html
Urban - 7.5+
Non-urban - 5.8+
This is my on-going research. From time to time I check car display, Multitronics (that is very handy, it also log last 20 trips) and fill on paper and later posting in Google Spreadsheet. This takes almost zero time as I anyway wait a couple of seconds before switching off engine. Multitronics measures precisely enough, just imagine show me exact fuel amount I need to fill with difference of 0.1-0.3 liters.
Lower average speed indicates more urban traffic and also driven time. I also was trying 98 fuel to check if I got more power and less consumption with same driving style - that's not worked for me, I do not recommend to pay more and have same results.

Engine number and CBZB model characteristics
The engine number (“engine identification character” and “serial number”) is located on the engine directly above the joint separating the engine/gearbox.
In addition, the “engine identification character” and the “serial number” are indicated on the vehicle data sticker -arrow- which is located on the air guide pipe.
- As of letter “C”, four-digit engine identification characters are used.
- The first 3 digits of the engine identification characters refer to the displacement and the mechanical construction of the engine. They are type-punched together with the serial number on the cylinder block.
- The fourth digit indicates the output and the torque of the engine and depends upon the engine control unit.

Reading material
1.2 TSI
1.4 TSI - sometimes similar (read smart!) but with more details comparing to 1.2 TSI docs
Update (2013-03-29)
Added engines overview and Audi SSP in English.
It's interesting, same SSPs about same 1.2 TSI engine but every make (Audi, Skoda and VW) has some more details. Example: at Audi you can see construction of charge pressure actuator and different states with thermostats, etc. When looking on all of them you build big picture. I think Audi has the best SSP than others.

LMG gearbox aggregate assignment, ratios, capacities
This is a gearbox from MQ200 series. It can transmit up to 200 Nm of torque (1.2 ltr./77 kW TSI engine is 175 Nm per RPM). The housing is manufactured from magnesium. The final drive ratios and the ratios of the individual gears can be matched to the power outputs of the various engines.
The following ratios are for my LMG (and MFX also) models. Check your vehicle sticker.
By the way, Skoda produced four million transmissions already!
The Škoda engine plant in Mladá Boleslav has produced the four millionth MQ 200 transmission. The assembly unit is laid out for engines with a torque of up to 200 Nm and will be used in models of the brands Škoda, Audi, Seat, and VW. Škoda Auto currently manufactures about 2,600 MQ 200 units per day. Furthermore, the Czech location will also produce the new MQ 100 transmission for the future “New Small Family Vehicle” by the Volkswagen Group.Manual transmission operation video

Oil type
This post is not relevant any more, please read explanations in following post.
Last Friday I was at Skoda specialist garage in Netanya and bought an extra oil. I didn't tell that when new car came to Israel garage, they drain out all factory-filled a high-grade oil and fill with local brand Delek that meets VW 502 00 standard. That is what Alex told me.
I posted oil label to one of forums to receive any feedbacks and people thinks that using VW 502 is very bad idea and it should be VW 504 with known brand (or 507). Just take a look on 502 vs 504 comparation and you will see why. You can check in Lubrizol Relative Performance Comparison Tool any other types too.
In the manual for Fabia (since Nov 2010, didn't checked earlier), Skoda recommends to use VW 504 only when you have flexible service intervals (QG1), for vehicles with fixed service intervals (QG2) - VW 502.
